unspoken words

Emma could still recollect the first day she saw her sister; it was after a long time. When the cell opened, she saw a figure resembling that of a human being with pale face, parched lips, sunken eyes and protruding check bones. Emma couldn’t convince herself that; this lean figure trying her best to give a smile is her own sister. “Eve is here in the rehabilitation centre for the past few months”, said the doctor in charge. We were always disturbed regarding her responsibity. “Where were you all this time? What made you come back now, huh!? Maybe you simply wanted to know whether she is dead or alive, ain’t you? The sarcasm in his tone made her cry……tears started rolling down her cheeks. Doctor …she couldn’t complete; Drugs have ruined her physically as well as mentally. She is also suffering from ‘SuicidalMania’. I have no words to explain how we saved her life last time. That was definitely a miracle. I strongly feel that your presence would help her
improve

Back at her flat, Emma went through the only album which she had kept close to her, when she decided to leave her house at the age of 25.She remembered how her mother shed tears knowing her decision was final. When she got a job for which she had been trying hard, she couldn’t reject it. Her mother’s effort to deviate her from this simply went in vain. But now for the first time in her life, she felt that she is a looser. She couldn’t take care of her sister when she needed her presence, love and affection the most. Eve was only ten years old then. Now stepping on to her mid twenties, Eve’s face showed more of wrinkles and strain. Emma found it difficult to stomach the fact.

“Madam!” she was suddenly woken up from those chains of thoughts by her maid Julie. Julie, “Please don’t disturb me for a while.” But Mam, did you drop this diary down there near to your car, I found it near the porch ‘Diary’ it took almost a minute for the word to settle in her mind as she was lost in thoughts. This is Eve’s diary. Emma managed to get it from the doctor in charge after a lot of efforts. Despite of treating Eve for the past few months, he failed in getting to know what circumstance might have led Eve in to the world of drugs. It was before two days that he came to know about this diary; it was the maid who found it from her shelf, as she was cleaning the room. It was safely kept beneath her clothes, may be she didn’t want others to know about this. Emma managed to spend some time with doctor this time when she got this diary from him. It was from him she came to know that Eve was found unconscious near a park. She was brought in here by some social servers. She had a bag with her………..

Eve was always different. She loved loneliness and enjoyed reading books. Music was her passion and her paintings were simply awesome; I definitely did secretly admire Eve’s talent in photography and painting, she thought. She remembered how Mom found it really awkward to take Eve for parties. She kept away from clubs and other friends of her age. Her world was really small with books, music, paintings and the photos which she took. Emma felt that her paintings were living. She could see and feel the essence of life in her photos too….I was the only friend or person with whom Eve was happy and comfortable. She was one reason why Emma decided to return to
her native place. Emma used to imagine the changes in Eve; she was shocked to hear from her neighbours that she is in the rehabilitation centre. Emma still has no idea about neither her brother nor her parents. Her brother Edwin is elder to Eve and younger to Emma by 5 years.

Emma felt that she would be definitely able to find a hint from Eve’s diary. She was really happy when she found Edwin’s address in it, and assumed that her parents would be definitely with him. She felt that she should read Eve’s diary before making a call to let Edwin know that she is here.

Hours scrolled away…………….

She was sweating, tears rolled down her cheeks, she was heart broken when she read that their parents died in an accident. Edwin didn’t find it much difficult to dump her to a lunatic asylum; as she never spoke after our parents died. She couldn’t overcome the shock. By doing so his first plan was done perfectly. The second step was to give orders to one of his friends at the asylum to give small amount of drugs along with Eve’s food. By doing so for a few months made her an addict. Finally everything was done well with her. Emma couldn’t believe what she was doing. She couldn’t believe her eyes nor believe what happened to her sister. Her phone started buzzing all of a sudden that shook her from her thoughts.

Doctor: Is this Emma speaking?
Emma:Yes,mayI know whois this?

Doctor: This is doctor from the rehabilitation centre. I am sorry to tell
that you Eve committed suicide. We couldn’t help. She had left a
note for you. I would like you to collect it as soon as possible.

At the hospital, Emma knew that she won’t be able to see Eva’s pale bloodless face for last time. She made arrangements for everything and came back to her flat with the note.

The letter said:

Emma, I wanted you to know what happened to me.
Perhaps this is my fate. I have no regrets. I became a victim of his selfish
needs. I didn’t become an addict by my will….When I came to know about what was happening to me, it was already late. Now, even if I get out of this rehabilitation centre, I won’t be able to lead a normal life without drugs. I
still love you. Bye forever……..
